From CRN and Derive - Carbonite Acquires Double-Take In Bold Move To Add High Availability, Data Migration To Its Data Protection Line
CRN reported that: "Cloud-based data protection technology developer Carbonite said on Tuesday that it had acquired the Double-Take Software assets of Vision Solutions in a move to bring its channel partners new offerings related to high-availability and data migration."
According to the article, "This represents the second major acquisition for Boston-based Carbonite which originally started out as a provider of cloud-based backup technology to consumers but which is now focused on MSPs and solution providers looking to protect and manage the data of small and mid-sized businesses." The article goes on to state that it, "comes after Carbonite's December 2015 acquisition of EVault, which brought the company into the disaster recovery and business continuity business."
The $65 million acquisition, Carbonite CEO and President, Mohamad Ali, is quoted from a 1/31 con call, "not only expands Carbonite's business from cloud storage to disaster recovery and business continuity to high availability and data migration, but also brings partners from both organizations huge cross-sell and up-sell opportunities."
Derive Technologies has been a long-time VAR for Double-Take software, a strategic partner of the original company, and a solution provider and reseller when it became part of the Vision Solutions portfolio. Derive expects to continue this long-time utilization of Double-Take Software's availability and protection solutions, during, and after, the Carbonite acquisition. According to John Wood, Derive's Vice President of Marketing, “With Carbonite and Double-Take, Derive can continue to deliver powerful, cost-effective availability solutions to midsize businesses, while also expanding to that client base, as well as larger enterprises a complete, cloud-centric Disaster Recovery as a Service (DRaaS) offering through the use of the suite comprising Carbonite, Carbonite Evault and Double-Take.”
